Continuous education and self-improvement are essential to success. In my two decades of experience in the financial services industry, I’ve learned that being a great leader means constantly seeking new knowledge and refining my skills. That’s why I recently attended a leadership refresher course in Florida, led by none other than Jocko Willink, the renowned author of Extreme Ownership and founder of Echelon Front.

At Cornerstone Planning Group, growth and professional development is at the forefront of our advisor relationships. If you want to become the best advisor and professional you can be, Cornerstone Planning Group has a seat for you.

The Power of Extreme Ownership

Back in 2017, I came across Jocko Willink’s book, Extreme Ownership. This powerful work on leadership had a profound impact on my life, and I immediately implemented its principles into my daily routine. The book teaches readers how to lead and succeed by taking full responsibility for everything that happens within their sphere of influence.

Jocko Willink, a former Navy SEAL officer, has authored three other books and hosts a popular podcast, which I have been following since 2017. His teachings, based on the principles of Extreme Ownership, have significantly changed my life, and it was an honor to finally meet him at the event in Florida.

A Refreshing Leadership Experience

The leadership refresher course was a fantastic opportunity to revisit the principles of Extreme Ownership and learn new strategies to become a better leader. Jocko and his team at Echelon Front presented a series of engaging workshops and interactive sessions focused on effective communication, team-building, and decision-making, all grounded in the concepts of Extreme Ownership.

During the event, I had the chance to network with other business leaders, share ideas, and gain valuable insights from their experiences. It was inspiring to see how the principles of Extreme Ownership have helped others achieve success in their respective industries.

The Importance of Lifelong Learning for Financial Advisors

The financial services industry is constantly evolving, and it’s crucial for financial advisors to stay updated on the latest trends, regulations, and best practices. This is why I’m an active member of the Financial Planning Association and invest in ongoing professional development. Continued education and development opportunities are also part of the value we provide for our network of advisors.

Lifelong learning is not only beneficial for staying current in our industry but also for personal growth. As financial advisors, we must continuously hone our leadership and communication skills, guided by the principles of Extreme Ownership, to effectively serve our clients and build lasting relationships.

Final Thoughts

The leadership refresher course with Jocko Willink was an incredible experience that reinforced the importance of continuous growth and learning, and the power of adopting Extreme Ownership principles. I am grateful for the opportunity to have met Jocko and to learn firsthand from his vast experience and wisdom.

I encourage all financial advisors and business leaders to embrace the concept of lifelong learning and continually seek opportunities for self-improvement. After all, our success is a direct reflection of our commitment to growth, both personally and professionally, and the ownership we take of our actions.
